FAQ

1. What services are provided?

Freelinguist is a marketplace for exchanging digital content and digital content services. You can buy digital content services directly from linguists, or buy pre-made digital contents directly.

There’re three ways to obtain the digital content services.

a. Post a Project: you can post a project and then select linguists that have placed bids to work on it.

b. Post a Competition: you can post a competition. Our linguists will submit proposals with proposed contents. Then you can award winning proposals.

c. Buy a digital Content: Our linguists have posted pre-made contents ready for sale. You can review the list and buy as many as you want.

You own the IP rights of the content purchased from our platform.

2. Can I request revision of the service files?

Yes. Once the linguist has submitted the service files, you can download them from your dashboard. Then review the service files. If you are happy with the work, please approve the completion of the job. If you desire further revision of the service files, you may submit the request to the linguist together with detailed revision instructions. Our linguist will follow your instructions and revise the service files until you are 100% satisfied and approve the completion of the job.

3. Will my jobs be kept confidential?

All linguists providing services on Freelinguist® have to follow a non-disclosure agreement. No linguist is allowed to share any information related to your job to any third party, which ensures your privacy is upheld. Please refer to the Linguist NDA in Terms of Service for details.

4. Can I use a payment method other than credit card, Paypal, or Alipay?

Yes, you can use the traditional bank transfer method to the account provided by us or send us money orders or checks. Once you have sent payment, please email us the detailed information of the transfer so that we can refill your account properly. Once we have received the funds, we will refill your account within 24 business hours. Then you can use the credits in Freelinguist® Wallet to purchase language services.

5. Can I get refund if I’m not happy with the delivered content?

Of course. This can be done easily by requesting to reject the ongoing job. Once the request is approved by linguist, the job will be cancelled and you will be fully refunded.






For Linguists

  1. How do I create an outstanding profile and make more money?

Make your profile an overview, resume, and linguist brochure rolled into one. It must highlight your professional credentials, job experience and portfolio, education accomplishments, and official certifications. Satisfactory profiles are complete, well-written, and error-free.



  1. How will I get paid? How can I withdraw my earnings?

All payments made by the client are paid first to the Freelinguist® escrow account. After the work is approved completed by the client, the earnings will be transferred to your account immediately.

You can request withdrawal from your account by using the Withdrawal function in the Wallet page in your dashboard. Once you have sent in a withdrawal request, our accounting team will process your request and send you payment after deducting no later than the upcoming payment date. You will receive the amount after the deduction of potential fees.

Please note that in order for us to send you the payment, you need to upload the proper signed tax form in the Wallet page. As per the U.S.A. tax laws, this form declares your taxpayer status and is mandatory. The tax form is just for record keeping purposes, which is required by IRS. We will not use your tax form for any purpose other than record keeping.



  1. Why is the client allowed to reject my service?

You are the service provider. Just like Costco sells products, you sell your services. Customers can always go to Costco to return products if they are not happy with the products, even without any reason. Likewise, your clients may also choose to reject your service if they are not happy with what you have delivered. Customer satisfaction is the key to our long-term success and prosperity.

  1. What should I do if my client rejects my service?

Once the client has submitted a request to reject your service, you have 20 days to decide one of the following two options:

1. Approve the rejection and cancel the contract; or

2. Hire an independent mediator to enter mediation.

Meanwhile, you should continue improving service so that the client will be satisfied and change his mind to approve the job completion.

If you don’t choose one of the two options or the client does not approve the job completion within the 20 days, it is considered dereliction of duty. The job is automatically rejected.

Please take initiative and contact the client as soon as possible to resolve the issue. Encourage the client to explain all the necessary revisions and what is causing the dissatisfaction. Then improve accordingly. At any time that the client is satisfied with the service and approves the job completion, the rejection will be dismissed automatically, and you will get paid accordingly.

  1. How should I treat a client with difficult demands?

While dealing with a tough client, you need to stay calm and answer their questions politely. Never respond when you’re feeling angry or frustrated. Make sure you understand what work the client wants you to do and make everything clear with the client before taking the job. Go through their instructions properly and ask if you have any queries. Put extra effort into studying their jobs. Demanding clients represent a chance to hone your inter-personal communication and professional skills. Complete the job on time, every time, regardless of the client.

Remember: The customer is always right!

Customer satisfaction is the key to our long term success and prosperity.

Please give the highest priority to customer satisfaction. After a job is completed, clients will rate your performance and leave comments. These will be visible to all future prospective clients. Instead of merely earning one-time service fees, bolster your reputation to increase your long term earnings.

  1. Which tax form should I use?

To withdraw earnings from Freelinguist®, you must fill in and submit electronically a tax form. This form declares your taxpayer status and is mandatory following U.S.A. tax laws.

US Persons: please use the W-9 form

If you are a US citizen

If you live in the U.S.A. (resident alien) and are legally allowed to work in the U.S.A.

Non-US Persons: please submit a W-8BEN form

If you are NOT a US citizen and live outside the U.S.A. (i.e. you live in any country except the U.S.A.)

Persons not allowed to work on Freelinguist®

If you are NOT a U.S.A. citizen and live inside the U.S.A. without permission to work, you cannot work on Freelinguist®.
